Exploring Life Beyond Desirable

I know that much has happened in the world, and in each of our lives, since the last time we connected.
I wanted to let you know that I’ve started posting again, but I’m now doing so on Substack where I’ve just launched my newsletter Beyond Desirable.
I’m excited to continue unpacking desirability culture with all of you, as well exploring what exists beyond and outside of this harmful paradigm. Because I’m now in the thick of midlife—it really does feel like I’m finally in my prime—I’ll be approaching all of this from a slightly different perspective.
Join Me, Why Don’t You?
In about a week, I’ll begin moving my subscriber list from WordPress to Substack where, as a free subscriber, you can resume receiving posts from me. You can also sign up now by clicking on this button.
I’d love to reconnect with you there. (If you are having problems with the above button, you can also try diahannreyeslane.substack.com)
If you don’t want to start receiving Beyond Desirable—please unsubscribe from this blog before February 5, 2025. If you are unable to unsubscribe here in time for the big move, you can immediately unsubscribe from the Welcome Letter I’ll be sending through Beyond Desirable.
Thank you for reading, commenting, sharing your own experiences, and supporting Stories from the Belly.
All my best,
Diahann Reyes-Lane
A Refresher About Me:
I am a writer who created Stories from the Belly: A Blog About My Female Body and Its Appetites. I remain passionate about unpacking desirability culture and the harm it causes women and girls. I am committed to debunking the lie that a female’s worth and viability diminish after her supposed “sell-by” date—or even before then, if she is supposedly “failing” to meeting society’s beauty standards of the day.
I got my start as a CNN journalist. For my 30th birthday gift to myself, I moved to Los Angeles to become an actor. For years, the expectation that I needed to stay young and desirable if I wanted to work in Showbiz messed with my life (not to mention seriously affected my mental health).
My writing has been published in The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Newsweek, Dorothy Parker’s Ashes, and more. In 2023, my husband, our six cats, and I left Hollywood and moved to The Land of Enchantment. We now live in a mountain town in New Mexico where our closest neighbors include deer, rabbits, coyotes, foxes, ravens, roadrunners, and many other amazing animals.
